Lover’s Leap
Note: This is currently marked with No Trespassing signs. Do not attempt to visit. You can drive by on Lover’s Leap Road, but you will not be able to see anything from the road.
Lover’s Leap is one of two roads that exit Leechburg from the Northeast side of town. The red dog, known as Lovelace Road, exits toward Ice Pond Road. This road gets no winter maintenance (or seemingly summer maintenance), but it’s a quick way to get to Ice Pond or Evergreen Road. It’s famous with locals; most who live here know the red dog.
The other road out is Lover’s Leap Road itself, further East at the top of Leechburg where Pitt Street ends. The Leap is an overlook just off that road — another spot known by locals; however, the current Google Maps view shows No Trespassing signs posted at the unofficial entrance. Personally, we don’t know how it got its name, but high vantage points with sweeping views were popular in the earlier days. Today, it seems many people have access to drones, and these views don’t get the same sort of attention they once did.
There have been quite a few stories of people losing cars off the road. This is another one where the locals have stories from the Leap. The road itself is in a bit of disrepair with a one-car-at-a-time stop sign along it. It was carved out high above a steep sandstone river cut.
